Copper’s Keeper

Copper’s Keeper

Slaughter Series Book 3

By A.I. Nasser

The Sexton’s musings (spoilers are likely):

An interesting conclusion to an original idea. Writing is consistent throughout the series. The structure flows smoothly. Like the other two installments each chapter concludes with an unknown part of the big picture. In this case we have the FBI interview reports that were done prior to the ending of the book. It’s really interesting because you don’t know the exact questions that are being asked but based on the answers you can glean what was asked. Probably almost word for word had these been real reports. Not everyone gets what’s coming to them within the confines of the written story, however you get the impression that eventually what is owed will be repaid.

There are a few questions that are left hanging in my mind but I suppose those are simply something I will have to suppose on my own. I suspect that Deborah is pregnant with Alan Carters child, even an old Ghoul can recognize the signs of morning sickness. Deborah is the one that I feel for the most. While she has Katherine, she has lost Alan again. What she does not know, that Katherine does, is that Alan will always be there to protect them. To protect them all. Because in the end we learn the meaning of the title, Alan Carter is Copper Tibet’s keeper. I find it very interesting that Copper seems to be okay with this arrangement. The other character that surprised me was Daniel Cole. Dude actually ended up being helpful. What I want to know is how he knew so much. Where did he get the info from and if he knew all along then why did he or the previous generations stop this shit years ago? Were they just that power hungry? If that’s the case then that’s just cold and makes them worse than the monster that they were feeding.

There is bonus content with this one too and if you were fuming as much as I with the actions of David Whelm as I was, you will want to have a look at it. When he got away from the Fiona and Ivan I was furious. Dude needed to pay for his part in the shit that hit the fan. That was, I believe, the only thing that myself and Fiona agreed on. That he was responsible for the riot, the death of Tracy’s father and really the death of the people shot during the riot. Yes, Fiona was the shooter, and needed to be held responsible for her part but he was the one that put all of it in motion. I just could not reconcile that he just ran away without punishment. As it turns out he is suffering from horrible nightmares and receiving visits from Alan who we learn can travel around just like Copper did.

Alan takes over, watching the halls, for the bitch that really started all of this by framing Copper for her daughter’s disappearance. Only he is not an evil piece of shit and keeps Copper on a short leash. I am glad that he is also making those that are responsible for years of murder and kidnapping pay for what they have done. My only question is what happened to Fiona Bright. After all we find out that she survived the attack by Ivan. Was she held responsible in this world or is she on Alan’s list of those to visit? I would very much like to know this answer. If it is up to the reader I would see her tortured in her own hell forever.

While I would have loved to have seen a happier ending for the benevolent I think that this ending was poetic. This was how it needed to end. Like I said I don’t agree with the “sins of the father” crap but because of the nature of the story I think that this was the most realistic, best option. I’m not mad about it and I can even say that the dreaded epilogue is not so dreaded in this case. It’s actually touching and reassuring. Yes. This one ended the best way that it could. Satisfying this Ghouls hunger.

Happy Devouring!
